Executive Director and Clinical Law Professor
Maggie Finnerty
Before attending law school, Ms. Finnerty began her career in the financial services industry at State Street Bank in Boston, MA. After graduating from the University of Oregon School of Law, Ms. Finnerty practiced law in the Corporate, Securities and Finance Group at Stoel Rives LLP, concentrating on mergers and acquisitions, securities reporting and compliance, financing transactions and general corporate law. Ms. Finnerty then joined TraderSource, Inc., a start-up company specializing in alternative investment strategies, as Vice President, Business Development. Ms. Finnerty joined Lewis & Clark Law School to launch the Small Business Legal Clinic in 2006. She currently serves as the Executive Director and Senior Clinical Law Professor for the SBLC. Ms. Finnerty also taught as an adjunct professor of business law at Portland State University. Ms. Finnerty is a recipient of one of the Portland Business Journal's prestigious "Forty Under 40" Awards for her professional accomplishment, community involvement, and professional recognition.
Clinical Law Professor
Scott Stevenson
Professor Stevenson began his career as an associate with Alston & Bird in business transactional law, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, securities law, commercial contracts and general corporate law. Professor Stevenson then pursued a degree in civil engineering and worked as a engineering consultant with CH2M Hill, where he counseled clients on environmental compliance and permitting issues. He returned to the legal field to join Bodker, Ramsey & Andrews as a senior associate, where he focused on commercial, corporate, real estate and financial transactions for privately-held businesses. Professor Stevenson next served as Senior Corporate Counsel for ADP, Inc., where he provided in-house legal counsel to a division of the large public company, on corporate issues including licensing, contract negotiation supervision, regulatory compliance, negotiation of outsourcing agreements with Fortune 500 clients, and execution of strategic acquisitions. Professor Stevenson currently serves as a Clinical Law Professor for the Small Business Legal Clinic.
Operations Manager
Becka Martinez Griffin
As the Operations Manager, Becka screens all potential clients for eligibility for SBLC services, and coordinates referrals with other small business development centers. She also oversees the SBLC's monthly Pro Bono Project under the guidance of the Executive Director and Clinical Law Professor. She provides support to legal interns, law clerks, and pro bono attorneys, and is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the legal clinic. She is in charge of the website and keeping the calendar of events up to date. Becka is bilingual in Spanish, and prior to working at the SBLC, she worked as an elementary school teacher for three years in Oaxaca, Mexico. In her free time she manages and promotes the Irvington Artisan Market LLC, a bi-annual artisan market in the Northeast area of Portland; owns and operates Sheila Marie LLC a fine jewelry design company that sells jewelry in Portland, around the country, and online; and enjoys traveling and exploring the Northwest with her husband and toddler son.
