Life is the ultimate myth-buster: youth, beauty, security, the economy, marriage—forget about it. These are the best years of our lives!
No, it’s not another rag on hot-flashes or men. The Only Way Out is Through takes a tour through the ravages of time, culture, family life, and BS as part of Portland’s Fertile Ground Festival. The Only Way Out is Through is going to be a great way to gather L&C Alumnae on January 23–a Saturday night. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Sellwood Masonic Lodge, 7126 SE Milwaukie Ave. Tickets are available at author and producer Miriam Feder’s website (class of ‘80) http://miriamfeder.com or at Box Office Tickets Be sure to enter the special event codë: L&C to get the special $12 ticket price.
THE PLAY: Laine visits Shelley and they rediscover their friendship and the trust they took for granted. In college, grad school, career building, motherhood people told them—“These are the best years of your life.” Now as they tally up the successes, the disappointments, the uncertainty and the cold hard facts, they realize they can’t hide and don’t want to anymore—The Only Way Out is Through. This is a thoughtful and upbeat coming-of-age musical—coming of “a certain age” that is.
Playwright and composer Miriam Feder received a Celebration Foundation grant to produce The Only Way Out is Through, her original musical . She has produced three one-woman shows at HipBone Studio: Big Words, About Love and The Vestibule, which also toured New Mexico. She posts her writings and pod casts weekly at: http://miriamfeder.com She has published writings in VoiceCatcher 2, 3 and 4 by the Portland Women Writers. She’s also written a couple of musicals for student production (In Portland and Even to the Western Ocean) which she directs regularly around town. Miriam holds a BA in Theatre Arts and Humanities from the University of Minnesota and a JD from Lewis & Clark Law School.
Portland theatre veteran Chrisse Roccaro directs the show and Cindy Lyndin co-stars in the dual role of Laine and Dr. Dopfelganger. Dug Martell is the technical director and Kerris Cockrell is the choreographer. Contact Miriam’s website for tickets: The Only Way Out is Through,. About Miriam Feder
After taking a BA at the University of Minnesota (BA in Theatre Arts and Humanities, 1977) I tried my best to fight the theatre bug off, first by going to Lewis & Clark Law School (JD 1980) then by practicing law for 12 years, raising a child, making multi-media, getting involved in non-profits… After stints as an actor, a director a writer, spoken-word performer and an artist-in-residence in schools I’m producing this musical I’ve written with a grant from the Celebration Foundation. Yes, I’ll even be on the stage as one of the characters. Come visit my website: http://miriamfeder.com, where you can follow the production, read and listen to my writings and pass it along.
