Honors Awardees
April 10, 2008
Portland, OR -- Lewis and Clark Law School held it's annual Pro Bono and Community Service Honors Awards Lunch. This is the tenth year that Lewis and Clark Law School has recognized student commitments to pro bono and the seventh year the school has recognized student commitments to community service.
A total of 8990 hours of pro bono and community service were reported as donated by law students from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008. More than 18% of students reported completing at least one hour of pro bono or community service work, and the average number of hours reported was 67 per student. 25% of the members of the class of 2008 received at least one community service or pro bono honors award during their time as students at Lewis and Clark Law School.
Lewis and Clark Law students have a profound impact on the community from mentoring high school students to prosecuting crimes for district attorneys' offices. The time given shows the professionalism and dedication of Lewis and Clark's law students and the values and sense of responsibility that Lewis and Clark Law School passes on to the next generation of lawyers.
State Representative Suzanne Bonamici spoke to the recipients about her history of service to the public and how that service along with her legal education prepared her for work as a state representative.
Congratulations to all of the Pro Bono and Community Service Honors Recipients who completed 30 or more hours of volunteer work over the last year.
