Environmental Justice Advocates
Mission
The Environmental Justice Advocates' mission is to advocate for and support, through direct action and the law, communities’ efforts toward environmental justice.
Overview
Environmental Justice Advocates (EJA) is a Lewis & Clark Law School student group that pursues environmental justice through direct action and scholarship.
Environmental justice is the idea that the income, race, or ethnicity of communities should not correlate to their quality of living environment, nor should members of these communities be asked to sacrifice their jobs or homes to gain a safe living environment. Pursuit of environmental justice must be rooted in the communities where the problems (and solutions) are; knowledge is an effective tool for change.
PROJECTS
The 2007 symposium was a huge success and EJA is striving to build upon the momentum with direct community projects.
Environmental Justice Advocates (EJA) is always looking for new projects that address community needs and promote environmental justice. If you have a project idea, please contact eja@lclark.edu.
2007-2008 Sample Projects

- Native American subsistence rights
- Air Quality issues
- Special Environmental Projects (SEPS)
EJ Conference
The next EJA Conference will be held during the 2008-2009 Academic year!
This year, EJA decided to focus its efforts on student projects and environmental justice speakers and events. EJA intends to continue to host an Environmental Justice Conference every other year. Stay tuned!
The EJA Conference advances EJA’s mission through both prongs by bringing together those who experience environmental injustices, community activists, advocates, government workers, students, faculty, and other interested persons to discuss local, national, and international environmental justice issues and build support for local environmental justice-related efforts. The EJA conference will be held every other year.
