NALSA Meetings for October 2008
Our next meeting will be on Oct. 14th at noon in Room 2. We will be having Lewis & Clark's very own Bob Miller as a guest speaker on the Doctrine of Discovery. For those of you not familiar with Professor Miller, he is a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and teaches civil procedure and federal Indian law here on campus. Here is a link to his blog: http://lawlib.lclark. edu/blog/native_america/
In addition to having Bob Miller speak, we will be discussing the Native Networking Night (Nov. 6th) that we are putting together and passing around a sign-up sheet for those interested in helping out. Volunteers do not have to pay the $10 cover!
Come for the food and stay for an amazing lecture!

Hi Everyone-
Here are the minutes from the meeting- look for your name so you know what your jobs are for next week and for Nov. 6th!
1) T-shirts- decided to hold off printing i.e. paying for them until we get money from our fundraiser on the Nov. 6th. But we do need to decide on a Quote (Michelle will email us some ideas) and we can start deciding on what we want the front to say. Also color. Black? Chocolate Brown? Both?
2) Possible Gerald Torres Event. Carma will email the Dean to follow up if this is still a possibility, then we can see what happens from there.

NALSA Meeting Minutes 7/28/08
Hi Everyone! Here are the minutes from our first official NALSA meeting of
the 08' / 09' school year!
It looks like we are off to a great start and have a lot of good ideas.
First, we discussed our table at the orientation to show the new studentshow cool we are! We have a blanket in our locker to put on the table. We thought of having the brochures for the summer program on the table as well as a flyer talking about things like: Speakers, Staying in touch with what is happening in Indian Country, Networking opportunities, Fed Bar, Native Professionals night etc. We will also want to have an email sign up sheet for new names. This is on Friday the 22nd.
Second, we talked about jazzing up the NALSA board before orientation! Maybe with pictures of the last field trip and our logo. Anyone one else with Ideas let us know!
Third, we talked about our budget from last year. We will ask for the same about this year, which is $750 for travel and $700 for general expenses. We do not have a treasurer yet, but maybe we will soon???
Fourth, we talked about fundraising and our ideas were
1. T-Shirts! Michelle is our lead on that project. We want to have T-shirts that are cool and that everyone would want to wear, not just L&C members. This way we can sell them at Fed Bar, at our table during the school year, the pow-wow on upper campus and everywhere else that we are this year.We talked about getting a native silkscreener. Carma was going to look into a friend she has for the project and if the logo is something that we can use or not!
2. A weekly bake sale- get out there and start making some money asap with baked goods. But do we need a food handlers permit? Do we need reservationsfor a table?
3. Indian Taco and Bingo Night? This may be in conjunction with the upper campus group. Start thinking of Ideas for what we can get donated as prizes! It was mentioned that the Casinos may be a good place to get some prizes and overnight stays.
4. Another great opportunity would be for us to host our own Native Professionals Night- and have the funds go to NALSA! We picked the Date of Nov. 6th. A Thursday night. We talked of possibly doing this in Smith Hall on upper campus.
Sounds like we have a lot of great plans.
Our next meeting will be on the 20th or 21st... Lets keep in touch about what would work best for people!
Thanks Everyone!
