We will introduce ourselves, the animal law program, and discuss SALDF’s

-California Legislature Passes Bill to Outlaw Tail Docking of Cows:

-Wolf Litigation Update: Earthjustice was in a Missoula federal court early this
week seeking an injunction to stop the wolf hunts in Idaho and Montana. This is
occurring because of the decision by the Fish and Wildlife Service to remove
northern wolves from the protections of the Endangered Species Act. The judge
continues to deliberate on the request for an injunction.

GET INVOLVED WITH STUDENT & COMMUNITY PROJECTS
-Human Education Ambassador Reader (HEAR) Program: Interested in helping the
community through a literacy program that helps children develop compassion and
empathy for animals? Lewis & Clark SALDF needs your help in getting this
project up and running…. You can make the difference! Email saldf@lclark.edu

-Pet Resuscitation Kits: Help Lewis & Clark SALDF staff all the local fire
departments with resuscitation kits. Who knows, it could be your neighbor or
your pet that you save. Email saldf@lclark.edu for more information.

-Puppy Friendly Pet Store SWAT Team: HSUS has launched a Puppy Friendly Pet
Store initiative and is looking for folks who would be interested in working
with them to reach out to pet stores (e.g., any non-chain retailer that sells
pet supplies and that don’t sell puppies). If you are interested in signing up,
please contact the Puppy Mills campaign at stoppuppymills@hsus.org to get
started

OPEN PUBLIC COMMENTING PROJECTS - EARN PRO BONO HOURS
-The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) re-proposed to protect 74,223 acres
of habitat for California tiger salamanders in Sonoma County, CA. USFWS is
currently accepting comments on this proposal. Deadline is 10/2/09. Contact
tzuardo@lclark.edu if interested.

-The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is proposing to renew Confined
Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination
System (NPDES). The CAFO NPDES General Permit #01-2009 regulates the manure,
litter, and process wastewater generated by CAFOs to ensure that CAFO
activities do not harm water quality. Deadline is 10/6/09. Contact
