NEDC’s Annual Westwind Weekend Retreat

NEDC will hold its annual weekend retreat at Westwind, a beautiful lodge on the Oregon coast, from October 12-14, 2012. The weekend will include guest speakers on a variety of environmental law related topics as well as a nature hike, a beach bonfire and home-cooked meals. 

$45 for one night, $75 for two nights.

Children under 12: $25 for one night; $40 for two nights

Register in the Lewis & Clark Law School, Legal Research Center from 12:00-1:00 from 10/8-10/11

Getting To Westwind:

Driving: Parking space is limited. Please try to carpool. NEDC has set up a google doc to help people arrange their own carpools:

Biking: If you are interested in biking to Westwind, please contact CATS@lclark.edu

Arrival and Departure Info:  

Friday: We will hike-in at 4:00pm SHARP on Friday. A tractor will be at the trailhead to transport gear at 4:00pm. The hike is approximately 2 miles and is flat.

Saturday: We will have a ferry crossing at 9:00am SHARP on Saturday. Note the directions to the ferry crossing are different. 

Leaving: Everyone (whether you hiked in or ferried in) will leave Westwind on Sunday at 11:30 am. The tractor will carry people’s things out. We will shuttle people from the “Hike-In Parking Area” to the “Ferry Parking Area” so everyone can retrieve their vehicles. 

Directions to HIKE-IN LOCATION: Arrive by 4:00pm SHARP on Friday

  • From Portland, take I-5 South or Barbur Blvd.to Tigard.
  • Exit onto Hwy. 99W /SW Pacific Hwy(Barbur turns into 99), and continue southwest towards McMinnville (stay on Hwy. 99W).
  • Take a left on Hwy. 18 (about 2 miles past the town ofDundee)
  • Continue on Hwy. 18 towards the coast; follow signs to Hwy. 101
  • Turn right onto Hwy. 101 Northbound
  • Turn left almost immediately onto Fraser Road
  • WhenFraser Roadturns to gravel, turn right through the gate
  • When you reach another gate, park and hike in.  The tractor will be there to take your gear.  Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Parking is limited; Please carpool.

Directions to FERRY IN LOCATION: Arrive by 9:00am SHARP on Saturday Morning

  • From Portland, take I-5 South or Barbur Blvd.to Tigard.
  • Exit on to Hwy. 99W /SW Pacific Hwy.(Barbur turns into 99), and continue southwest towards McMinnville (stay on Hwy. 99W).
  • Take a left on Hwy. 18 (about 2 miles past the town ofDundee)
  • Continue on Hwy. 18 towards the coast; follow signs to Hwy. 101
  • Turn right (north) on Hwy. 101; continue for about 1/2 mile. 
  • Turn left (west) ontoThree Rocks Rd.(at “YWCA Youth Camp” sign).
  • FollowThree Rocks Rd.to the Y-intersection, where the pavement ends.
  • Turn left into Knight Park.  


Packing List: Sleeping bag; Rain jacket/pants; Warm sweater/fleece; Hat and gloves; Sturdy walking shoes; Headlamp/flashlight; Water bottle, beer cup; Towel and Toiletries; Toys (instrument, kayak, yoga mat) *Use a bag that can be fully closed, it will be piled in the tractor
