Teaching About the Holocaust

Teachers will explore historical content, current methodologies and rationales for teaching the history of the Holocaust, the use of literature and technology to teach about the Holocaust, and will learn about local resources available to them.
The workshop is free of charge to middle and high school teachers and includes books and teaching resources from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. A continental breakfast and lunch will also be provided.

Credit option information
Training participants have the option to purchase 1 semester hour of continuing education credit from the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
To earn credit students must attend the full-day training on October 6 plus attend a four-hour seminar on Saturday, October 27 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center, located at 1953 NW Kearney St in Portland.

About the Instructor
Sonia Marie Leikam received her M.Ed. from Portland State University and a Certificate in Holocaust & Genocide Studies from Georgetown University. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center and is a licensed middle and secondary level teacher with social studies and drama endorsements.
