As the first of this year’s Spring Bookwarming Series, the CAS Bookstore will be hosting Roger Nelsen, Lewis & Clark Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and author of A Mathematical Space Odyssey: Solid Geometry in the 21st Century (MAA Press). Far more than a textbook, Mathematical Space Odyssey demonstrates the immense creativity that goes into mathematical thinking. Nelsen’s book provides an introductory resource to upper level teachers for a variety of geometric explorations in three dimensions, including prisms, pyramids, platonic solids, cones, cylinders and spheres. Professor Nelsen will share about the practical uses of solid geometry, in terms accessible to mathletes and number-phobes alike!

3:30-4:30 in the Bookstore lounge. This event is free and open to the public, refreshments will be served.
