LA 620 Practicum II: Innovations in Reading
This course prepares participants to organize, manage, and evaluate both classroom and school-wide K-12 reading programs. Students will examine the textbook adoption process, participate in the development and use of a tool for evaluating reading texts, assess components of reading and writing programs, and learn to integrate reading and writing processes throughout the school grades to extend learners’ experiences and enhance their own and students’ capacities to solve literacy problems..

Prerequisite: This capstone course of the Language and Literacy Reading Endorsement Program must be taken at the end of the sequence.

About the Instructor
Jennifer Burkart is an Instructional Specialist in the Beaverton Public School District as well as an adjunct professor for the both Reading Endorsement and Special Education programs at the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. In her work, she coordinates curriculum, develops and monitors assessment practices, coaches educators in best practices for classroom instruction, delivers staff development and specializes in designing individual reading interventions as well as school-wide action plans for our most tangled readers.
