Bull Run Watershed Tour
Date: September 7 2013
Fifty miles outside of Portland is a remote watershed covered by ancient forest. This particular watershed is where all of Portland gets its drinking water, and has since 1895. This 65,000 acre restricted area is next to Mt. Hood, with a number of spectacular views of Oregon’s highest peak. We’ll drive deep into this watershed on an access road, hike a short trail (2-3 miles) through old growth forest, visit the lakes that give us our drinking water, see the mechanics of the dams and pipes that bring us our water, and learn a bit about the history of Bull Run. You will need to bring an official photo ID for this trip to access Portland Water Bureau facilites.
