Fall Break: Steens Mountains & Alvord Desert

Date: October 9, 2013 - October 13, 2013

Situated at the base of the 10,000 foot-high Steens Mountains, this sunny desert gets only seven inches of rain per year. Hot springs, mud pots, and other geothermal wonders abound 400 miles S.E. of Portland. Spend the weekend listening to coyotes howl in the distance as you soak in a hot spring and count the constellations in the desert sky at night. Hiking the canyons that lead to the Steens Mountains are stunning as the aspens drop their gold leaves. This trip leaves at 3:15 pm Wednesday, please do not sign up for this trip if you have class after that time (due to the 9-hour drive to this amazing place).
