The Lewis & Clark Pioneers will once again welcome Pios fans to campus for an event in conjunction with the 31st National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
On Saturday, Feb. 11, Lewis & Clark will host a free all-day sports clinic for girls ages 7-12 where participants will interact with Pioneers student-athletes and coaches and learn new skills in tennis, soccer, volleyball and basketball.
Lewis & Clark’s head strength and conditioning coach Angela Dendas will also coach a strength and conditioning session.
Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. with the camps running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participants will also receive a complimentary ticket to the Lewis & Clark basketball games that evening. The women’s basketball team hosts Pacific at 4 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 6 p.m. Both teams are currently in the top four of the Northwest Conference standings.
The Lewis & Clark Pioneers own 42 conference championships in women’s sports, including last year’s Northwest Conference title in women’s tennis.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day began in 1987 as a single event in Washington, D.C., to honor Olympic volleyball star Flo Hyman. Since then, the day has grown into a nationwide celebration across all 50 states. The day can always be attributed back to the work Hyman did as an athlete and for her work to assure equality for women’s sports.
