Oregon Repertory Singers

In its debut as the College’s “Choir in Residence,” the Oregon Repertory Singers will perform works by Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Claude Debussy, Franz Biebl, Duke Ellington, Andrew Lloyd Webber, George Gershwin, Robert Kyr, Loreena McKennitt, and Traditional Gospel Blues arranged by Caldwell/Ivory.

Two Lewis & Clark College piano students will perform in this exciting program.

Oregon Repertory Singers is an internationally recognized 65-voice ensemble founded in 1974 and led by Artistic Director Gilbert Seeley. ORS performs an extensive choral repertoire with a special emphasis on new music by American composers. Within the greater Portland, Oregon region, the chorus is will known for its “impeccable dynamics,” “a fine blend and sense of style,” “a clear, unforced sound,” and “a tradition of offering unheard-of delights.” The Oregonian The Oregonian Arts Commission News writes, “Under (Seeley’s) direction ORS has become a top-tanked choral ensemble through its unsurpassed interpretations of music that crosses international, cultural, and time boundaries.” Performances are consistently met with the highest praise: “This is choral programming at its best.” The Oregonian

ORS has earned international acclaim through its awards in the International Choral Festival. These include first prize in two categories at Spittal, Austria in 1987 and first prize at Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1991. ORS returned to European festivals in Croatia and France in summer of 1998.

Lewis & Clark College and the Oregon Repertory Singers are pleased to announce a significant collaboration which names ORS as the Lewis & Clark College “Choir in Residence”. This relationship formalizes rehearsal space for ORS in Evans Auditorium and creates a host of new possibilities for both pedagogy and performance on campus. Lewis & Clark College is a proud sponsor of the Oregon Repertory Singers and salutes Dr. Gil Seeley, James W. Rogers Professor of Music, for his 28 years of outstanding leadership of one of Oregon’s musical treasures.
