The willingness to bear pain, the depths of our collective sorrow and despair, and our search for solace in the face of inevitable suffering are the subjects of Forrest Pierce’s Service of Shadows. The concert-length collection of choral, instrumental, and solo vocal music inspired by Rilke’s Book of Hours features performances by two of Seattle’s finest ensembles, the Northwest Repertory Singers and Seattle New Music Ensemble, as well as internationally renowned soprano Kirsten Blase and organist Andrew Arthur.
Forrest Pierce, an American composer of Northwest provenance, is assistant professor of music at Lewis &Clark College, and composer-in-residence of the Seattle New Music Ensemble.
