Doug Varone and Dancers
Date: November 17, 2004
Founded in 1986, Doug Varone and Dancers performs a body of work heralded for its physical daring and vivid musicality. Dance writer Suzanne Carbonneau calls Varone’s dances “among the most compelling in the contemporary repertory.” Doug Varone has created highly acclaimed work not only for his own company but for theater and opera, including lavishly praised productions for the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera and Opera Colorado. White Bird last presented Doug Varone’s company of superb dancers in the inaugural 2000-2001 White Bird/PSU Dance Series and is delighted to present this important company on the Schnitzer stage in a gripping program that will feature his newest work “Deconstructing English,” co-commissioned by the White Bird New Works Fund.
