Recognized as a child prodigy, Shashank is now a mature musician at age 27. He has performed all over the world and in front of leading dignitaries in India. Purbayan Chatterjee is a disciple of Usatad Ali Akbar Khan and a rising star among sitarists. Each artist has several CDs to his name and together they have released a recording of the jugalbandi or musical dialogue they will present at Lewis & Clark. Shashank last performed at the College in April 2004 to a SRO audience. Get your complimentary tickets early!
Lewis & Clark College is proud to present this concert with Kalakendra, the Society for the Performing Arts of India. Kalakendra was founded in February 1987 to promote and increase awareness of the performing arts of India by presenting that culture’s finest musicians and dancers to Portland audiences. As a voluntary non-profit organization, Kalakendra has been successful in presenting over 150 concerts and educational activities to date. Kalakendra members enjoy free admission to most concerts.
