Bicentennial Symposia Series
Annual Symposia
The College of Arts and Sciences hosted a Lewis and Clark Expedition-themed symposia each fall during the Bicentennial Commemoration, 2003-2006.
The symposia featured scholars from all over the United States. The four symposia included “The World in 1800,” “Encounters,” “Rivers,” and “Legacies.” To learn more about these events including speakers and lecture topics follow the links to each symposia at the right.
Law Programs
The College also sponsored a law symposium series, which included the following programs:
* From the Corps of Discovery, to the Doctrine of Discovery, and Beyond: The Legacy of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in Indian Law, 2004
* The Rule of Capture, 2005
* Western Instream Flows: 50 Years of Progress and Setbacks, 2006
Graduate Teacher’s Institute
In cooperation with the Oregon Council for the Humanities, the Lewis & Clark College Graduate School of Education sponsored a series of summer teachers’ programs including “Rivers and The American Experience: From Lewis and Clark to the Bonneville Dam.”
