The Global Law Program is honored to welcome Lawrence J. Gumbiner, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Oceans, International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES). Mr. Gumbiner will lead the U.S. delegation to the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development— Rio+20. The Global Law Program invites all students, staff, and faculty to attend a lunch-hour talk and Q&A with Mr. Gumbiner. He will discuss “The Road to Rio: U.S. Policy Objectives for the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development.”
Rio+20 will build on the large range of international environmental policy developed in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 as part of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). It is envisaged as a conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government or other representatives. The objective of the Conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and address new and emerging challenges.
Pizza lunch provided.
