CUPSI Qualifier Slam, Featuring The Good News Poetry Tour!!!!!
Date: January 24 2012 7:00pm - 10:00pm Location: The Platteau
Friends, Poets, Countrymen,
On one magical day each year, God smiles down upon us all and allows us here at Apocalips to bring you the greatest show ever. I refer of course to our CUPSI qualifier slam, which somehow contains a lifetime’s worth of beauty wrapped up into a single perfect evening. For those who don’t know, CUPSI is a national competition for collegiate slam poets. It is a 4 day competition full of sunshine and laughter and every last one of the best things, like if heaven had an orgasm (but better). And on January 24, we are giving YOU the choice of who’s going to represent us. The slam will be two rounds of L&C’s most gorgeous poets competing for a spot on the team. POETS, BE SURE TO BRING 2 PIECES. It’s gonna be brutal, y’all. But in the best kind of way.
But, wait, there’s more. Because Apocalips loves y’all so much, we have not one, not two, but THREE FEATURES for the evening. Here’s a little bit about them:
Hieu Nguyen was a member of the 2011 Minneapolis slam team, which placed 5th in the nation. He also co-coached the 2011 University of Minnesota team at CUPSI where they came in 4th. He is also quite possibly the most adorable man you will ever meet.
Dylan Garity was also a member of the 2011 Minneapolis slam team which placed 5th in the nation. He founded the Macalaster slam, and was a member of the Macalaster teams at CUPSI in both 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Macalaster tied for third place. In 2011, they won the whole competition. His poems are rumored to have wish-granting powers.
Neil Hilborn was also a member of the 2011 Minneapolis slam team, as well as a member of the 2010 and 2011 Macalaster CUPSI teams. In 2010, he was honored with “Best Persona Piece” at CUPSI and in 2011, he won “Best Love Poem.” In his spare time, he flies hot air balloons and domesticates small lions.
DON’T MISS THIS SHOW. Since we’ve got so much beauty to share with y’all, we’re gonna get started a little bit earlier than usual. SIGN-UPS AT 6:30, SLAM STARTS AT 7! IN THE PLATTEAU!
If you haven’t started writing yet, you should probably start right about now-ish.
