Described in The Strad as a "violinist whose virtuosity was astonishing\," she has broadcast live on radio\, televisio n and the internet\, recorded soundtracks for film and theater\, and free lanced with many orchestras in the UK and USA\, often as concertmaster. A keen advocate of new music\, she has performed music of more than 40 liv ing composers and premiered over two dozen solo and chamber works\, some of which have been released on CD. Prior to her appointment as Assistant Professor of Violin at The Ohio State University School of Music in 2005 \, Tan had served as faculty at Cornell University\, University of Toledo \, The Cleveland Institute of Music\, Cleveland Music School Settlement\, and the International Summer Music Festival and School in Colombia. She frequently accepts invitations to present master classes\, adjudicate com petitions/auditions\, and guest conduct youth/college orchestras. Continu ally expanding her solo repertoire of approximately 200 works\, she parti cularly enjoys collaborating with composers and presenting new or unjustl y neglected masterpieces. Her current research and performing interests i nclude the complete works of Eugene Ysaÿe and the vastly unexplored repe rtory for unaccompanied solo violin. Tan studied piano\, violin\, music theory and composition from an early age in her native country Singapore and earned the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (UK) diploma at a ge fourteen. She was awarded scholarships to the Guildhall School of Musi c and Drama (London\, UK) and The Cleveland Institute of Music\, where sh e was conferred the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2001. She has won nu merous prizes for violin\, chamber music\, new music and academic scholar ship\, and attended various summer camps in the USA (Encore\, Meadowmount and Norfolk)\, UK (Britten-Pears/Aldeburgh and IMS/Prussia Cove) and Jap an (Pacific Music Festival).
