SUMMARY:Math Matters - and Math Teachers make all the difference
DESCRIPTION:\n Kasi Allen is a professor in the Graduate School of Education &\; Counseling at Lewis &\; Clark. She is the advisor and lead faculty member for all master's students preparing to become math teachers at the middle school and high school level. \;\n\n\n Come join us for some mathematical problem solving and related discussion as Kasi sheds light on the current landscape of mathematics education in grades 6-12. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with innovative teaching tools and consider some of the latest issues in mathematics education.\n\n\n This will also be a time to learn about the various pathways to becoming a secondary math teacher for those who are interested. \;\n

SUMMARY:Wolfram Mathematica 10
DESCRIPTION:\n Wolfram Technologies in Education and Research\n\n\n Presented by Paul Fish\, from Wolfram Mathematica\n\n\n This talk illustrates capabilities in Mathematica 10 and other Wolfram technologies that are directly applicable for use in teaching and research on campus. Topics of these technical talks include:\n\n\n Enter calculations in everyday English\, or using the flexible Wolfram Language\n \n Visualize data\, functions\, surfaces\, and more in 2D or 3D\n \n Store and share documents locally or in the Wolfram Cloud\n \n Use the Predictive Interface to get suggestions for the next useful calculation or function options\n \n Access trillions of bits of on-demand data\n \n Use semantic import to enrich your data using Wolfram curated data\n \n Easily turn static examples into mouse-driven\, dynamic applications\n \n Access 10\,000 free course-ready applications\n \n Utilize the Wolfram Language's wide scope of built-in functions\, or create your own\n \n Get deep support for specialized areas including machine learning\, time series\, image processing\, parallelization\, and control systems\, with no add-ons required\n \n\n\n \;\n\n\n Current users will benefit from seeing the many improvements and new features of Mathematica 10\, but prior knowledge of Mathematica is not required. \; All attendees will receive an electronic copy of the examples\, which can be adapted to individual projects.\n
