Come join us Thursday night for Women’s Basketball Playoff Game! - Feb. 24

February 21, 2011

Dear members of the Lewis & Clark staff,

As many of you know, our athletics teams have been enjoying great success this year, with women’s cross-country capturing the Northwest Conference championship and football enjoying its best season since 1996.  This has continued into the winter season, with women’s swimming poised to make a run at the conference championship this weekend and both basketball teams entering post-season competition after completing excellent regular seasons. I am proud to share that our women’s basketball is the conference regular-season co-champion, the first time the team has won or shared the regular-season championship. In addition, our men’s basketball team has finished the regular season in second place. Congratulations to head coaches Juli Fulks and Bob Gaillard, their coaching staffs, and all the student-athletes.

Both basketball teams now move on to Northwest Conference Tournament play and then, hopefully, to the NCAA Tournament. The men will play at Whitman College this Thursday; you can get updates on the game at our LCpioneers.com website. By virtue of their first-place showing, the women will host their first-round game against Whitman—this Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Pamplin Sports Center here on campus.

We would love to see a large home crowd turn out to support the team. Please join us for the game and be sure to wear your orange and black Lewis & Clark apparel. My thanks to the Lewis & Clark Bookstore for offering all orange and black Pioneer gear at a 20 percent discount to students, faculty, and staff this week.

Game tickets are free for students. Per conference rules, tickets are priced as follows for others: $7 for adults (including Lewis & Clark faculty and staff), $4 for seniors, $3 for children 6-18, and free for children under 6.

One more important note: If the women win on Thursday, they will host the Conference Tournament Championship game two days later, on Saturday, at 7 p.m., in Pamplin. So please mark your calendar for that date, too.

Thank you for all you do to support our students,

Celestino
