ENVS welcomes earth system scientist to its faculty spring 2012

The ENVS Program has hired a new faculty member, Dr. Jessica Kleiss, who will arrive spring semester 2012.

The ENVS Program is excited to announce that Dr. Jessica Kleiss will join us to serve in the ENVS earth systems science faculty position effective spring semester 2012. Dr. Kleiss, currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Joint Institute for Studies of the Atmosphere and Ocean at the University of Washington, received a dual-major undergraduate degree in mathematics and in earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then a PhD in oceanography in 2009 from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego.

Dr. Kleiss introduces her research interests as follows:

My research interest lies at the interface between the atmosphere and the ocean. These two geophysical fluids come into contact precisely where humans dwell, both at sea and in coastal communities. I am interested both in the effect of humans on the coupled ocean - atmosphere system, as well as the impact of changing regimes of coastal ecosystem health on our economy, development, and health.

Dr. Kleiss will teach ENVS core and elective courses, as well as courses in geological and earth systems sciences.  Welcome, Jessica!
