Passages: Remembering Paul Copley

Paul Copley, Lewis & Clark alumnus and long-time instructor in the Graduate School, passed away suddenly on July 3rd. The Lewis & Clark community is invited to an informal gathering to remember Paul on Thursday, July 14th at 5:30 PM in the Diane Gregg Memorial Pavilion.
Paul earned his BA with a major in history at Lewis & Clark in 1967, and then received his master’s degree in history from California State University at Long Beach, and his basic administrative license from Lewis & Clark in 1991. He taught high school for 36 years and chaired the Social Studies Departmentat Sunset High School in Beaverton for 32 years.
Paul began teaching on an adjunct basis in Teacher Education at Lewis & Clark in 1995. Since 2005, he has been a cohort coordinator and subject area advisor in secondary education. Just a few weeks ago he’d begun work with a new cohort of incoming students. Paul was a much loved teacher and colleague known for his quiet wisdom, kind demeanor, and abiding concern for others.
Paul was born in England and loved everything British. He was also active in sports and an avid bicyclist. Paul and his wife Laurie met here at Lewis & Clark college while they were undergraduates. He is survived by his wife Laurie, his two daughters Devyn and Lauren, and two granddaughters Alyson and Katy.
Paul was an active member of the Beaverton Foursquare Church, and a memorial service is scheduled there for Sunday, July 17, at 4 PM.
