What most excites you about joining the LC community?
Having mostly been at large universities, I am thrilled about the size of the LC community. I am looking forward to getting to know students and other faculty members and seeing them on a regular basis across campus. I like the close-knit community that this kind of regular contact fosters, especially when it comes to sharing ideas and enthusiasm for learning.

What kind of hobbies or special activities do you enjoy outside of work?
I have a 15-month old, so I love taking him on walks and reading to him. I also love outdoor activities - especially hiking, camping, cross-country skiing and rafting. I took my son camping on Mt. Hood this summer, which was great fun! I also love food and wine, so I am excited to explore all that Portland has to offer.

What were your childhood goals/aspirations?
As a child I wanted to be a pilot. I loved the idea of learning how to fly.

What are you listening to in your car right now?
I mostly listen to NPR. It’s my way to catch up with the news every day.

What was your favorite childhood story?
My favorite childhood story was Narnia. My parents read the series of Narnia books to my sister and me, and I was fascinated with the idea of entering an imaginary world. It inspired me to make up games and imaginary worlds when I played.
