Golden Grads Attend Classes, Get A+

The Albany Society, along with the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs, hosted a new event this fall: Albany Week, held October 10 through 13. The Albany society is an honorary organization of alumni who graduated from the College 50 or more years ago.

During Albany Week, alumni chose from a variety of classes to attend, ranging from history and philosophy to chemistry and foreign languages.

Oren Kosansky, assistant professor of anthropology, invited members of the Albany Society to participate in Qualitative Research Methods, a course about the fundamentals of social science research. Alumni spoke with students about their lives as part of a living history project.

Alumni also shared their career advice with students during a career advising panel, a joint venture of the Albany Society and the Office of Career Advising. Discussions focused on how students can apply their education to the working world, regardless of their major or intended career. “The energy they [alumni] brought was an inspiration,” says Keri Rose ‘06. “They gave me a sense of the longevity of the College. It’s not just four years–it’s more like home.”

The Albany Society hopes to develop more initiatives in the future. “We plan to work with the entire campus to increase the connection between the College and the Albany Society through events, communications, and volunteer activities,” says Pat Hibbard ‘52, past chair of the Albany Society Board of Directors. “There was a great response from professors and students to Albany Week, and we plan to see many more people attending in coming years.”
