Artists and Specimens: Documenting Contemporary Experience
-
Lady Bird Beetle from Richland, Washington by Cornelia Hesse-Honegger, 1998. Watercolor on paper 18.5 x 14 inches
This exhibit is the fourth and final exhibition organized in conjunction with the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial commemoration.
Recognizing that much of the Corps of Discovery legacy comes to us in the form of the journals kept by the explorers and the many natural history and anthropological specimens collected by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, this exhibition presents six artists who are committed to exploring the world around them.
Through journaling, collecting, documenting, and preserving, these artists give us present-day accounts of the human experience. Artists Barton Lidices Benés, Mark Dion, Tony Foster, Terry Evans, Cornelia Hesse-Honegger and Sue Johnson are included in this exhibition.
