Kugler awarded American Philosophical Society grant
March 21, 2012
The American Philosophical Society has awarded Rob Kugler, Paul S. Wright Professor of Christian Studies and director of strategic initiatives, a $6,000 Franklin Research Grant. The grant allows Kugler to travel to Heidelberg, Cologne, Munich, and Vienna for archival research and collaboration with colleagues.
Kugler’s unique skills as a scholar of early Judaism combined with his competency in juridical papyrology will allow him to work side-by-side with scholars of papyrology to inspect and interpret legal documents from Hellenistic Egypt. This work will result in a commentary on the texts, which will provide scholars of early Judaism a significant body of evidence to which they would not otherwise have access.
