Matt Wuerker ’79 has won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in recognition of “his consistently fresh, funny cartoons, especially memorable for lampooning the partisan conflict that engulfed Washington.”

A political cartoonist and illustrator for Politico, Wuerker has published cartoons in newspapers across the country. He was a recipient of the 2010 Herblock Prize and one of three finalists for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize.

Editor-in-chief John Harris called Wuerker “emblematic of the spirit of Politico. He knows that politics is serious stuff…but he also knows that covering politics and telling the story of politics should be a hell of a lot of fun. Nobody’s having more fun in this business than Matt Wuerker.”
