Information and reminder about 4/20
April 18, 2012
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I wanted to touch base with you and pass along a bit of information regarding 4/20. You may be aware that a couple of years, ago on this date, some students decided to openly smoke marijuana by the flagpole on lower campus.
Over the years, I have met with many students, faculty and staff to hear their thoughts and work towards a more positive outcome for everyone around 4/20. Those conversations were very informative and I appreciate the input that was given. The College wants all community members to know what to expect on 4/20, and that the College does listen to concerns expressed over the years.
The College will continue to enforce the legal and institutional policy on illegal drug use on 4/20, including marijuana. College staff will be present at the flagpole (the traditional gathering spot) on 4/20 to support the enforcement of college policy. Portland Police will not be present, but will be contacted if college staff needs help in responding to disruptive or illegal behavior.
Thanks to everyone who has spoken with me, this year, and previous years, to help inform the development of this plan. If you have any questions about this plan please contact me via email at: jfeldgore@lclark.edu.
Thank you,
Jeffrey A. Feld-Gore
Interim Dean of Students
