Scholarship recipient announced
Adam Taylor ‘13, of Beaverton, OR, was recently awarded the prestigious Christine Fredricks Smith Memorial Scholarship, the College’s first endowed scholarship for a mathematics major. This need-based scholarship is named after Professor Emeritus Greg Fredricks’ daughter, class of ‘92, who died in a airplane crash in 2007. The scholarship is awarded annually to a mathematics major with Junior or Senior standing and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.500. The faculty of the Department of Mathematical Sciences select the scholarship winner based on the candidates’ academic achievements and contributions to the Department.
Adam was surprised and happy with this announcement and had this response:
“As a Junior transfer student this year, being selected for this award is a great honor. It solidifies for me the great community that is found at Lewis & Clark and my place within that community. I particularly wish to thank Professor Fredricks for this gift and see this as an opportunity to pay-it-forward in my future endeavors and to give back whenever possible.”
