CARE offers additional summer events! 2012 LC Summer Series – Round 2

CARE offers additional summer events!

CARE—which stands for Community And Recreation for Employees—is an employee committee formed to work toward improved employee morale and cohesiveness among all college employees, make a positive impact in the community, and have FUN!

We are pleased to announce a second round of events for the summer:

Organic Land Care Management Program

Wednesday, July 25, 12:05-12:35 p.m.

Something funny happens to people when they know their environment is pesticide free, pet friendly, and ecologically sound. Dog walkers let their pet roll around in the grass in that carefree upside-down ‘doggie angel’ manner, passers-by try a thimbleberry and reminisce about hikes through the woods, and those strolling to work or class enjoy the scenery without fear of invisible hazards. Come join Grounds Steward, Suzie Spencer, on a tour of Lewis & Clark’s landscapes now under an Organic Land Care management program through Oregon Tilth as she shares the intricacies of organic gardening (rolling in the grass will be permitted)! Bring your questions about encouraging wildlife, appropriate pruning and watering, dealing with pests and diseases, and advice for your home garden.

We’ll meet in the circle in front of the Manor House rain or shine and the tour will begin promptly at 12:05 p.m.

Law School Scavenger Hunt

Thursday, August 9th  12:05-12:35 p.m.

Do you know your way around the Law School Campus? Take this opportunity to explore and learn more about the Law School through this interactive and fun activity!  Doreen Corwin, Director of Faculty Services has designed a tour where you’ll answer questions and learn about the Law School. We’ll be in groups led by Law School staff so there’s no worry about getting lost.

We’ll meet outside the entrance of the Legal Research Center (the building furthest south, shaped like an inverted U) at 12:05 p.m. and begin the adventure.

Home Gardening Q&A Session with Gabe Bishop and Members of the Grounds Crew

Wednesday, August 22, 12:05-12:35 p.m.

Do you ever wonder why your vegetable garden at home isn’t thriving, how to control the mildew on your roses, or why the leaves are curling up on your prize hostas? Feel free to bring in samples of your problem plants and show Gabe Bishop and the members of the grounds crew. They will be here to answer faculty and staff questions about their home gardens. Please send any specific questions in advance to Gabe at gbishop@lclark.edu.

We’ll meet on the slate patio of the Manor House (above the Glade) at 12:05 p.m.
