Tuajuanda Jordan appointed chair of diversity and inclusion

President Barry Glassner has announced that Tuajuanda Jordan, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will serve as chair of diversity and inclusion for 2012-13.

President Barry Glassner has announced that Tuajuanda Jordan, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will serve as chair of diversity and inclusion for 2012-13. This position replaces that of chief diversity officer, established in 2008 and filled last year on an interim basis by Graduate School Dean Scott Fletcher.

The reconstituted Deans Council, which Jordan will serve on, will oversee diversity and inclusion initiatives in this academic year, Glassner explained.

“As interim CDO, Dean Fletcher identified the need to develop greater clarity about the institution’s diversity goals,” Glassner said. “Over the course of the coming year, Dean Jordan will work with the Deans Council to address that task, particularly as it relates to the mission and goals of our three schools.”

In addition to Jordan and Fletcher, the members of the Deans Council are Law School Dean Robert Klonoff, Dean of Students Anna Gonzalez, and Vice President and Provost Jane Atkinson, who convenes the council. Associate Vice President and Director of Human Resources Isaac Dixon will work closely with the council.

The council’s charge is to develop institutional approaches to shared issues and opportunities involving the three schools and to collaborate with Executive Council and Operations Council, as appropriate, in doing so.

Jordan plans to bring forward a proposal from the Deans Council to the Executive Council next spring regarding diversity goals that will advance the educational mission of Lewis & Clark.
