1952

Sally McBride BA won the Benton County Cultural Coalition’s award for Lifetime Contribution to Culture for 2012. McBride is a music teacher and key organizer of the Corvallis-Oregon State University Symphony’s annual concert for fifth- graders. She worked for 10 years as the rehearsal pianist for the Robert Joffrey Ballet. She earned a master’s degree in music education from Harvard University and has enjoyed an extensive career teaching music.


Richard Metzler BA writes, “I remember climbing Palatine Hill, first on a bike, then in my little 1936 Plymouth coupe with a rumble seat.” Two of his most memorable professors were Bill Shearer and Lewis Thayer. Metzler worked at Hanford and with the Weyerhaeuser Company for more than 30 years. “Please tell your students that I am a living witness—thanks to Lewis & Clark. Long live the tradition.”
