Class of 1952 celebrates Golden Reunion

Fifty years seemed fleeting to more than 60 members of the class of 1952 who attended their Golden Reunion May 10-12.

“Our 50th reunion brought back floods of memories and a bit of awe that we were there,” says Frank Lawrence ’52. “We missed those who couldn’t come, but rejoiced as we reconnected with friends whom we hadn’t seen for many years. What a great time we had!”

The weekend included an evening barbecue, campus tours, and chats with former faculty members, including John Anderson, professor emeritus of religious studies; Reinhard Pauly, professor emeritus of music; William Shearer, professor emeritus of physics; and Don Balmer, U.G. Dubach Professor Emeritus of Political Science.

The reunion banquet on south campus showcased a PowerPoint presentation of 50-year-old photos pulled from the Pioneer Log student newspaper and Voyageur yearbook. Featured guest speaker Cornelius “Neil” Sabin, professor emeritus of communication, lived up to his reputation as an entertainer, amusing the audience with colorful stories and remarks.
