The Beaver, a novel by Academic English Studies (AES) alumnus Mohammed Hasan Alwan, has been short-listed for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF), also known as the “Arabic Booker.”  The prize is supported by the Booker Prize Foundation of London.

The IPAF is one of the most prestigious and important literary prizes in the Arab world. Its aim is to reward excellence in contemporary Arabic creative writing and to encourage the readership of high-quality Arabic literature internationally by getting translations of novels that have won or been short-listed for the IPAF published in other major languages.

The winner of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2013 will be announced at an awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi on April 23, 2013.
