L&C Community Chips in to Make Alumni Honors Banquet a Success

Every year, the Board of Alumni hosts an honors banquet to award outstanding alumni for their superior performance in their career fields, service to their community or service to the college. This year, an alumnus and student are making their own unique contributions to the Board’s signature event.

Morgan Madison ‘99, will be making custom glass awards to give each of the honorees in lieu of the typical wooden plaques.

Madison said of the commission to make the glass plaques, “I was happy to give back a bit.”

His idea for the overall design is to make each plaque freestanding. They will be translucent but with bright colors to reflect the vibrant spirits of the individuals receiving the awards.

“I want to reflect the nature of the work these people are doing and their enthusiasm and what they are bringing to their communities,” Morgan said when describing his inspiration for the design.

Each plaque will be based on the same design but there will be variation between the individual awards.

Keziah Peterson ‘16, helped to put together video biographies of each of the alumni honorees.  As part of her work-study job with Alumni & Parent Programs she filmed and edited interviews to go into the videos. Each video will be five to seven minutes long with interviews of the alumni colleagues or friends speaking to why they are deserving of the award. Peterson said she likes the documentary style of the videos and how they paint an introductory picture of each honoree.

“Each interviewee had nothing but great things to say about the honoree. I get to make these sentiments come through in the video,” she said.

The banquet will be held February 23 at 6 p.m. in Stamm Dining Hall, Templeton Campus Center. Click here for this year’s winners, registration information and an artist’s statement from Morgan Madison.
