The Lewis & Clark women’s basketball team defeated Trinity College of Texas 78-49 at Pamplin Sports Center on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The 13th-ranked Pioneers will take on conference rival Whitman in an NCAA second-round game at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Pamplin.

Senior Sara Villanueva scored a game-high 23 points for Lewis & Clark on 9-for-12 shooting from the floor. Conference Player of the Year Kristina Williams had 15 points and nine rebounds as Lewis & Clark improved to 25-3 on the season.

Whitman, the Northwest Conference tournament champion, defeated Cal Lutheran in the other first-round match at Pamplin. The wins by Lewis & Clark and Whitman set up a rematch of last Saturday’s conference championship game, won by Whitman on the Pioneers’ home floor.
