Outdoor Adventures

Students explore and learn from the environment of the Pacific Northwest.

Though our students choose from 28 majors and more than 30 overseas and off-campus programs, almost all of them have one pursuit in common: College Outdoors. Our program, one of the largest of any similarly sized college in the country, takes 9 out of 10 students into the wilderness of our diverse region.

College Outdoors (2011-12)
Total trips: 99
Participant spots filled: 1266
Opportunities for:

  • trip leaders: 195
  • assistant leaders: 64
  • student coordinators: 65

While whitewater rafting and sea kayaking are the most popular outings, the program offers a taste of the unusual as well, such as clinics in igloo building and Northwest ancient forest ecology. In addition to offering fun outdoor adventures, the trips provide leadership opportunities, inspire group communication, build community, and enhance decision-making skills.

A scholarship program, funded by the student government (ASLC), now makes the program even more accessible to Lewis & Clark students.
