A loss to our community

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Jacob Valdiviezo died unexpectedly on March 30. Our hearts go out to Jacob’s family, friends, teammates, and classmates.

Dear Lewis & Clark community members,

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Jacob Valdiviezo died unexpectedly on March 30. Our hearts go out to Jacob’s family, friends, teammates, and classmates.

Jacob was a sophomore from San Francisco who was interested in pursuing economics. A wide receiver on the Pioneer football team, he was considered a good friend and leader by his peers and coaches.

We know that this is difficult news to hear, especially near the end of the academic year.  Many of you knew Jacob as a friend, classmate, teammate, and fellow student. As we struggle with what this loss means to us individually and as a community, please keep his family in your thoughts.

We encourage you to reach out to your personal support network or the Counseling Center at503-768-7160 during this difficult time.  Additionally, please know that Mark Duntley, our Dean of Religious and Spiritual Life (duntley@lclark.edu503-768-7082), and Valerie White, our Ombudsperson (valeriew@lclark.edu503-768-7336), are available for counsel. The College also has an after-hours counseling service available at 503-265-7804.

Please contact Mark Duntley if you would like to help plan an event to celebrate Jacob’s life, which will be held later this semester.

Sincerely,

Tuajuanda Jordan                                      Anna Gonzalez
