William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition

Last December 2012, fifteen of our students participated in this highly competitive mathematics contest.  This 6-hour exam which is voluntarily attempted by only the top math students in the United States and Canada, is considered the world’s toughest math test. The median score is often zero.

One of our students, Benjamin Hoffman, scored 29 points!!  This ties the LC record which was achieved in 1997. Benjamin is one of the three Oregon contestants who ranked in the top 500 (the top 12%)  of the contestants.

COMAP’s Mathematical Contest in Modeling

This spring, our team of three students earned a “Meritorious” ranking in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling!  That ranking places our team in the top 17% of the
5,636 teams from around the world that participated in the contest.
We are very proud of the students on this team: Aojie Zheng, Derek Janni and Lam Nguyen.

Our team tackled Problem B:
