Lewis & Clark honored by EPA for green power use

Lewis & Clark is the number one school in the Northwest Conference in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s College and University Green Power Challenge. It is one of only nine northwest colleges to rank among the nation’s highest in green power use.
The challenge tracks green power generation and purchases across the nation. Green power is a subset of renewable energy and includes electricity produced from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, eligible biomass, and low-impact small hydroelectric sources.
“Green power at Lewis & Clark is purchased by undergraduates through a voluntary student fee, and these fees cover 100 percent of our electricity use for all three of our campuses,” said Amy Dvorak, sustainability manager. “We continue to rank highly in the EPA challenge because of the commitment of our students to this program.”
Green fees also go to support student projects with a sustainability focus. Learn more about one of these projects—a sustainable harvest fellowship—proposed by Tara Brown BA ’12.
