On June 17th, the Lewis & Clark Bookstore hosted a bookwarming to celebrate the release of Gladys, An American Story: 1934-46, written by AES’s own Mary Brooks.  The book is a collection of letters between the young protagonist, Gladys, and her family during the New Deal era. Over the years, Gladys explores, studies, and plays an important role in the rebuilding of America as she leaves her home on the farm, attends college, and earns a job as a teacher.  Her story is a testament to the hard-working and idealistic people that propelled to resilience a nation marked by hardship.
