Race monologues: From the moment I heard about the Ray Warren Multicultural Symposium, I knew I wanted to be involved. Last year, I spoke in the Race Monologues, sharing my journey as a mixed-race person. This year, I facilitated that event.

Diverse perspectives: You don’t have to cross the ocean to discover what it means to be multicultural—Lewis & Clark offers great opportunities right in your own backyard. I recently explored regional perspectives on diversity and dialog on an alternative spring break trip to New Orleans. On campus, I represent a student voice on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. For me, diversity is just a mix of people with different backgrounds and interests talking to each other.

An eventful life: In my work with the conferences and events office and the Campus Activities Board, I’ve come to realize that event planning is what I want to do. Planning, setting up, and assisting with summer camps, conferences, and student events is an art when it’s done well. And I like seeing the impact that my involvement has on the campus.

Emerging voice: The Office of Multicultural Affairs recently recognized me with its Emerging Voice Award for my involvement in creating a more inclusive campus. I’m just happy to provide an outlet for students, whether it’s an outlet for them to talk about their identity, or just to go out and dance
