Portland Literary Arts featuring Salman Rushdie

In this six-week seminar, from August 27 to October 1, professors Rishona Zimring & Pauls Toutonghi led discussions regarding wo of Rushdie’s greatest, most acclaimed, and most notorious works of fiction: Midnight’s Children and The Satanic Verses. Participants acquired an introduction to the major themes and formal ambitions of Rushdie’s stunning works of historical fiction and magical realism, and discussed the backgrounds to these two novels of enduring cultural and artistic significance. Participants also read excerpts from and responses to Rushdie’s most recent work, Joseph Anton: A Memoir, in anticipation of his October Delve appearance.

 

Participants also received complimentary tickets to Salman Rushdie’s Portland & Art Lectures event on Tuesday, October 8.
