Mark Pietrok, a well-known figure in Pioneer athletics, has been named acting director of Physical Education and Athletics. He replaces Clark Yeager, who had served as director for seven years.

In his new role, Pietrok is fully committed to attracting student-athletes who will thrive in the college’s challenging educational environment. “I’m committed to recruiting students who will be successful both academically and athletically,” he says. “I’d like to continue improving on the success we’ve built over the last decade.”

During the 2012–13 season, 35 student-athletes were named to either the Northwest Conference (NWC) First Team or Second Team, while nine athletes were named to the All-West Region. The Pioneers also finished the year with six conference champions, two NWC Athletes of the Year, and two athletes earning All-American honors. The Pioneers were just as successful in the classroom, with 59 athletes being named to the NWC Scholar-Athlete team.

Pietrok has worked at Lewis & Clark for nearly 25 years. After serving as the college’s head athletics trainer, he was named senior associate director of athletics–sports medicine in 2009. The college has launched a national search for the permanent director.
