Kim Stafford’s memoir, 100 Tricks Every Boy Can Do: How My Brother Disappeared has tied with Anthony D’Aries’ The Language of Men: A Memoir for a silver medal from the Independent Book Publisher Awards in the autobiography/coming of age category. Around 2,500 authors competed for 382 medals in various categories of the 2013 contest. Published in 2012, Stafford’s book works backward, from his brother’s suicide to his growing sadness and separation, ending with his happy, exploratory childhood.
