Mohammed Alwan, AES Alumnus, Novelist, and Short Story Writer Returns to Campus

AES students enrolled in the AES 240 Seminar entitled “Guest Workers” recently visited with and interviewed AES alumnus Mohammed Alwan after reading selections of his work. Alwan is a Saudi Arabian novelist, short story writer, and newspaper columnist. He was selected as one of the 39 best Arab authors under the age of 40 by the Beirut39 project. He was also a participant in the first IPAF Nadwa in 2009. His work was published in the Beirut39 anthology (Beirut39: New Writing from the Arab World, edited by Samuel Shimon) and in the IPAF Nadwa anthology (Emerging Arab Voices, edited by Peter Clark). Another honor included being short-listed for the 2013 International Prize for Arabic Fiction, known as the Arabic Booker Award and supported by the Booker Prize Foundation of London.
