Upcoming Sellwood Bridge closure
May 01, 2014
The Sellwood Bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13 until as late as 4 p.m. on Friday, May 16 to allow the contractor to install pre-cast concrete girders on the east approach for the new bridge. (To learn why these girders are built offsite, see the new article on the Sellwood Bridge website.)
The trucks that will deliver the girders are 140 feet long. The bridge will be closed to all traffic modes (motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians) around the clock during the girder installation. Springwater Trail users may experience brief delays under the bridge May 15 – 16 when the girders are installed over the trail. Flaggers will direct trail traffic on these dates and a short detour will be available via SE 6th Avenue.
People traveling to or from Lewis & Clark should allow extra time on these days as traffic will likely be backed up until the bridge reopens.
